Playground Build a Success
After a lot of sweat and hard work, Childcare Matters concluded June with a brand new playground. The project, which began with funding from a local foundation, was helped along significantly by a partnership with Lowe’s Heroes.
After the center moved to its new location in 2015, parents and staff identified several ways the playground could be improved. A new fence allowed the center to grow both the infant/toddler and big kid play areas. Plans were then made for the addition of several new play stations and sensory experiences.
Lowe's provided a grant toward materials, building expertise, and labor. More than 20 Childcare Matters parents, friends and staff joined 10 Lowe's crew members for four (very hot!) days of playground construction. New playground features include two sandpits, shade structures, playhouses, music centers, and a garden space. The new playground is more accessible, safer, and—best of all—fun!
Special thanks to Lowe's Store #0487 of Chapel Hill and the Lowe's Heroes project, which allows Lowe's stores to collaborate on group projects where they can make a larger difference. Since 2010, with the support of Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, the program has given employees a chance to make even more of an impact in the communities where they work and live.
