Childcare Matters is one of the longest running, most respected daycare providers in the area. Originally hosted at the Church of the Holy Family, it incorporated as a separate nonprofit in 2008. The center moved to its present location on Estes Drive in August 2015.
CCM was founded with the mission of providing children with the high quality and affordable care that they and their parents deserve. Research shows that a positive start, especially in the first five years of life, is critical to a child's future. In addition to competitive rates, CCM supports this mission by offering more than $100,000 in subsidies yearly.
Childcare Matters has low turnover rates—both for teachers and families. Our teachers measure their tenure in years, even decades. This consistency in care, coupled with small class sizes, creates a tight-knit community atmosphere. Staff foster close relationships with families, and many of our families have been with the center for years.
As a member-run organization, parents play an important role in the life of the center. Our success relies on the tight camaraderie and supportive community cultivated among our teachers and families through work days, family picnics, and celebrations. A parent-led board works with the director to administer the center’s operations.
Childcare Matters works with many local organizations including Child Care Services Association, Orange County Social Services, and the Orange County Partnership for Young Children. Our center participates in the NAP SACC (Nutrition and Physical Activity Self Assessment for Child Care) program and SHAPE NC, which both focus on helping children develop good nutrition and physical activity practices.
We were named Best Daycare by the Chapel Hill News in 2012 and 2013 and have been a mutliple year finalist for Best Child Development Center in Orange County in the IndyWeek Best of the Triangle awards.
